It's been business as usual at Chess4Life, but my position within' the company has changed drastically and I now find myself writing and editing articles for the company's newsletter, with the expectation that I'll take over the layout and formatting once we work something out with the higher-ups. While I only wrote one full fledged article this month, there was still plenty before we ship out on Jan. 31st!
My one article was a student spotlight on Eashver Elango, a student I've enjoyed working with since I originally came to the company over a year ago. The article covers his hobbies, ambitions, role models, and favorite things about Chess4Life. Composing the article wasn't too difficult, I only did one interview (with Eash himself) and wrote it shortly after for submission to Ben on the 21st.
I also wrote a couple of forewords for one outside article about a chess player who used his skills to help coach Corban University's soccer team and lead them to a ranked championship title, written by an old friend of Chess4Life's CEO, Elliot Neff. The other was a testimonial from a parent discussing how Chess4Life helped instill a work ethic in his son and improved their relationship.
After completing the actual articles, I was charged with finding a chess puzzle for the newsletter. I took one from chess4life's own curriculum on a strategy called "barreling," in which two of the same piece are lined up to attack in the same direction twice to break down walls or lure out important pieces.
Finally, I had to find non copyrighted images to go with each article. This was a simple task, but I'm hoping to make more time next month to take and use my own pictures to add a sense of personalization and legitimacy to each article.
